Sri Lanka receives 120,000 MT of coal
The unloading of 120,000 MT of coal from two vessels has begun following the payment of USD 38 million, Minister of Energy Kanchana Wijesekera said.
The Minister said with the two vessels the coal requirement for the country before the monsoon deadline has been fulfilled.
"With stocks in hand and the two vessels unloading, it will be sufficient to run the full 810 MW until October. September to May is the only time coal can be transported in barges to the Power Plant due to the monsoons," he tweeted.
Further, a Jet Fuel Cargo and a Diesel Cargo consignment commenced unloading as well.
The coal and fuel consignments arrived during a severe fuel shortage and lengthy power cuts in the country.
