New Cabinet won’t resolve burning issues - SJB

The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) expressed doubts that the appointment of a new Cabinet will solve the problems of the public, when they are demanding the immediate resignation of the President and the Government.
Speaking to the Media on Monday (18) MP Tissa Attanayake said the country is facing a dire situation, with public protests continuing. “The protesters demand the President, Prime Minister, and Government resign immediately and hand over the reins to a capable group, not to form a new Cabinet,” he said.
“It is strange as to why the President, Prime Minister, and Government are remaining silent when the country is collapsing. The Media reported that the new Cabinet was formed with the goal of ensuring political stability. The public has lost faith in the Government. If the Government was people-oriented, then it must promptly take steps to provide services efficiently instead of shuffling Ministers,” he said.
Commenting on the recent fuel price hike, he said, “The public cannot bear the fuel price hike.”
“Scheduled power cuts are still being imposed and the Government has not been able to provide a solution so far. The public is still facing gas shortages. They are forced to queue for weeks,” he added.
