Independent group to sit separately in Parliament
All 41 Parliamentarians who recently withdrew from the Government have requested the Speaker that they be allowed to sit on the side of the Opposition in Parliament.
They further urged Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena to recognise them as an independent group,
Speaking to the media. former Minister of Water Supply Vasudeva Nanayakkara asserted that regardless of whether they sit on the side of the ruling party or the Opposition, it is important that the group sit together.
Following the request, Abeywardena allowed for the independent group to sit together in the House.
Accordingly, MPs representing the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), National Freedom Front (NFF), and the Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC) who withdrew from the Government earlier this month are expected to sit together as a separate group in Parliament.
Parliament is scheduled to convene at 10:00 am tomorrow (19).
